By accessing or using jot.place (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.
These Terms are supplemented by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect and use your information. By using the Service, you also agree to our Privacy Policy.
Jot is a social platform where the atomic unit of content is a rendered Markdown document (a "jot"). The Service allows you to create, publish, and share jots; build a profile; follow other users and star their content; organize jots into collections and series; participate in groups; tag and discover content; comment on and react to jots; subscribe to RSS feeds; search the platform; and receive notifications about activity relevant to you.
To use certain features, you must create an account. When registering, you agree to:
You may register using an email address and password, or through GitHub or Google OAuth. Each person may maintain only one account. Usernames must be unique and may not impersonate other individuals or entities. We reserve certain usernames that may not be registered.
You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account and use the Service.
You retain all ownership rights to the content you create and publish on Jot. We do not claim ownership of your jots, comments, collections, or other user-generated content.
By publishing content on Jot, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, display, reproduce, distribute, and make available your content solely in connection with operating, developing, and improving the Service. This includes displaying your content in feeds, search results, RSS feeds, embedded previews, and other platform features.
This license continues until you delete the content or your account, at which point we will remove it from our systems within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business purpose (such as moderation audit logs).
You are solely responsible for the content you publish. Your content must not violate applicable laws, infringe the intellectual property rights of others, or violate these Terms. Jot renders your Markdown documents as you author them; you are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the rendered output.
Public jots may be forked by other users, creating derivative copies that are attributed to the original author and jot. By publishing a jot with public visibility, you acknowledge and consent to this functionality.
You may not use the Service to:
All content published on Jot — including text and uploaded images — is subject to automated moderation using the OpenAI Moderation API. Content may be classified as approved, flagged as NSFW (Not Safe for Work), or rejected based on moderation results.
Users may report content or other users for violations of these Terms. Reports are categorized by type (harassment, bullying, spam, hate speech, illegal content, NSFW mislabeling, impersonation, self-harm promotion, or other) and may trigger automated enforcement actions when thresholds are met.
Jot reserves the right to review, remove, or restrict access to any content at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if we determine it violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to the community.
Violations of these Terms or our community guidelines may result in strikes being issued against your account. Strikes are recorded with the reason for issuance and may decay over time.
The accumulation of active strikes leads to escalating consequences:
Severe violations may result in immediate suspension without prior strikes. During a suspension, you will be unable to create, publish, or interact with content on the platform. You will be notified of any strikes or suspensions issued against your account.
Jot offers a Pro subscription tier with enhanced features, available via monthly subscription processed through PayPal. Subscription terms, pricing, and included features are described on our pricing page. We reserve the right to modify pricing or features with reasonable advance notice.
Creators may monetize their content through paid jots (one-time purchases), author subscriptions (recurring access), and tips (one-time contributions). All payments are processed through PayPal.
Jot applies a 15% platform fee to all monetization transactions, including jot purchases, author subscriptions, and tips. This fee covers payment processing and platform operation costs, and is deducted before creator payouts.
Refund requests for purchases and tips are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you believe a charge was made in error or you are dissatisfied with a purchase, please contact us at support@jot.place.
All payment processing is handled by PayPal. By using paid features, you also agree to PayPal's User Agreement. Jot does not store credit card numbers or full payment credentials.
Content containing adult, explicit, or sensitive material must be labeled as NSFW (Not Safe for Work) by the author at the time of publication. NSFW content is gated behind an opt-in preference and is only visible to users who have explicitly enabled NSFW content display in their account settings.
Failure to properly label NSFW content is a violation of these Terms and may result in content removal, strikes, or account suspension.
The Jot name, logo, visual design system, and platform software are the intellectual property of Jot and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our proprietary materials without prior written consent.
If you believe content on Jot infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us at support@jot.place with a detailed description of the alleged infringement.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL JOT, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY.

You may delete your account at any time through your account Settings. Account deletion permanently removes your jots, comments, follows, stars, media, and all other associated data from our systems.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these Terms, with or without notice. We may also discontinue or modify the Service at any time.
Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to: ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnification, and limitations of liability.
We may revise these Terms at any time by posting an updated version on jot.place. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last modified. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice through in-app notifications or email.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.
